Mission

The Quezon Provincial Library provides free and easy access to information, ideas, books and technology that enrich, educate and empower every individual in our province’s diverse communities.

Vision

The Quezon Provincial Library will satisfy the 21st Century learning, recreational and literacy needs of its multicultural community through service that exceeds expectations in physical and virtual environments that promote a literate community and enhanced quality of life.

Organization’s Brief Description

The Quezon Provincial Library offers services open to the general public by collecting, organizing and providing access to various information sources in the community.

Considered as an indispensable part, the library plays a vital role as promoters of literacy, providers of wide range of information sources and centre of community information services.


OBJECTIVES:

  • To acquire and preserve all information about Quezon Province;
  • To assemble, preserve and administer books and related educational, informational, cultural and recreational material, within the framework of its budget, in order to promote an enlightened citizenry and enrich personal lives;
  • To serve the community as center of reliable information;
  • To develop in cooperation with the local government units, a system of public libraries and information in the country;
  • To provide the reading public an enhanced environment to pursue intellectual, moral and physical development;
  • To provide opportunity and encouragement for children, young people, men and women to educate themselves continually;
  • To support educational, civic and cultural activities of groups and organizations.

  • FUNCTIONS:

  • To make available to the members of the community reading materials of wide array, including reading materials prescribed by the Department of Education and national newspapers of general circulation and others.
  • To be used as venue for audio-visual presentation in the community and other kinds of exhibitions and activities aimed at increasing the library awareness by government agencies, non-government organizations or private entities in the dissemination of information of general interest.
  • To assemble and administer books, periodicals and other library resources in the organized collection for educational, research and information thus, promoting an enlightened and well-formed citizenry in using equipment in the library.
  • To serve as repository of the cultural and historical heritage of Quezon Province and its municipalities.

    GUIDE TO THE QUEZON PROVINCIAL LIBRARY

    LOCATION
    The Quezon Provincial Library is located in the GintongYamanng Quezon Bldg., Belen Drive, Capitol Compound, Lucena City. It is a two-story building built in 1924 as the original hospital with five thousand fifty (5,050) square feet floor area. Most of the library’s collection is at the ground floor. The Gintongyamanng Quezon Museum, the province’s depository of cultural heritage is housed at the second floor. The library and museum can be reached through public transportation.
    ACCESS TO THE LIBRARY
    The Library is open to the public from all walks of life from pre-school, elementary, junior and senior high school, college students, out of school youth, professionals, researchers, senior citizens or any individual interested in reading books and using library facilities/equipment. Researchers should present a valid identification card upon entrance.
    SERVICE HOURS
    The Library is open from 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon during weekdays. However, it is close on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

    REGULAR SERVICES OFFERED

    READERS’ SERVICES

    1. Circulation Section
    This service aims to strengthen its collection by making the needs of the community.
    Activities with charging and discharging items borrowed from the library collection, generally for outside use.
    2. Children’s Section
    The Quezon Provincial Library considers service to youth as a primary mission, to attract and encourage children and young adults to love books and reading.
    This Section offers access services and resources related for the promotion of reading among children.
    3. Periodical Section
    This section keeps a control record of the holdings of serial publications (international and local magazines, newspapers, journals, etc.) received by the library, and answers questions about holdings of specific titles.
    4. Filipiniana Section
    This section serves as a repository of the country’s intellectual and cultural heritage.
    It contains publications about the Philippines, in all its aspects—cultural, political, social, religious, economic, and others regardless of author and imprints.
    5. Reference and Reserve Section
    This section houses a collection of extensive general reference materials, which are intended to be consulted for a particular question or query, rather than read thoroughly.
    It includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, almanacs, yearbooks, atlases, gazetteers, biographies and indexes.

    Other Collections:

    Local Cultural and Historical Collection

    A collection that refers to the Province’s past and present, social and cultural heritage, built heritage, residential growth and commercial development.
    The aim of local historical collections is to acquire, store or preserve and make these available to researchers or to General Public.
    Vertical File
    A vertical file (sometimes referred to as a clippings file or pamphlet file) is a collection of material such as news clippings, booklets, maps, pictures, pamphlets, tourism brochures, and other grey literature, created and maintained by libraries and other organizations.
    The materials are typically loose, separate pieces organized in folders and arranged by subject.
    Vertical files are used as ready reference material to supplement other collections on topics not easily covered by conventional material such as books.
    Gender and Development Corner
    It aims to inspire and support development policy and practice for social justice and gender equality in compliance with Executive Order 273 (Approving and Adopting the Philippine Plan for gender responsive development, 1995 to 2025).
    Chinese Corner
    Established in March 2017 to provide references on Chinese history, art, culture and literature to the Filipino-Chinese community in the province.
    Bangko Sentralng Pilipinas Knowledge Resource Network (BSP KRN)
    A program assisting the public by promoting the understanding of the essential economic and financial concepts and issues affecting the country’s economy, through the exchange of information resources between and among its network members.
