Active farmers’ cooperatives are now being eyed by the provincial government and Quezon Governor David “Jayjay” C. Suarez. Strengthening the said groups has the potential to improve the agricultural sector while simultaneously improving the income generated by the farmers in the locality.
According to Gov. Suarez, millions of pesos have already been invested by the local government in terms of farming equipment and other inputs to different farmers’ organizations in Quezon.
Last week during the celebration of Women’s Day, the good governor visited Barangay Mabunga, San Francisco;Barangay Ilayang Yuni, Mulanay; and Barangay Ilayang Yuni, Buenavista. The cooperatives in these areas received the latest batch of inputs and equipment from the province, which includes certified palay seeds, corn seeds, multi-tiller, drip irrigation, sprayer, grass cutter, open source water pump, hand tractor, mini thresher, flatbed dryer, open water source pump, mini corn shelter, mini 4-wheel tractor, mobile corn dryer and a hauling truck.
Gov. Suarez was present during the event along with the local officials of the said towns, board members Vic Reyes and Lourdes “Bunso” Pasatiempo, and officials of the Department of Agrarian Reform – Quezon. (QPIO)
