For the second time around, the residents from 69 barangays from the towns of Pitogo and Macalelon, Quezon were given Serbisyong Suarez Health Coupons last August 2.
A total of 1,725,000 pesos worth of Lingap Kalusugan sa Barangay were disseminated to the captains of the barangays that make up the two towns. If circumstances allow, another distribution of Serbisyong Suarez Health Coupons would take place this year in order to aid barangays that would need more assistance.
Las Piñas Congresswoman Cynthia Villar made a surprise visit during the distribution of the coupons to give a special message. According to Hon. Villar, she has wanted to visit the Province of Quezon for a very long time. She also took the opportunity to personally thank Quezon Gov. David “Jayjay” C. Suarez and Congresswoman Aleta C. Suarez for the warm welcome she received upon her arrival. During her speech, she expressed her interest to bring to the province her livelihood program, particularly the “CocoNet” whose primary material for fabrication is the coconut husk. She said that Quezon, being a major producer of coconut and coconut-based material, would benefit largely from its production.
Governor Suarez was deeply grateful for Cong. Villar’s initative to share to Quezonians a way to add to their income. He said that these programs are necessary in order to lessen the numbers of families with little to no source of income in the province. Many Quezonians around the ages 25 to 35 are jobless – which has a direct effect to the increased numbers of malnourished children. Gov. Suarez also added in his message an invitation to Cong. Villar to be a guest at an upcoming province-wide assembly of barangay captains.
During the event, Unisan Mayor Nonato Puache asked for the Governor’s approval to declare a state of calamity for the families living near the coastline. According to Mayor Puache, these families whose livelihood is primarily sustained by fishing are having a hard time because they cannot catch any fish due to the current state of the climate. Gov. Suarez quickly agreed to it in order to give immediate help to those who were severely affected by the typhoon Gener.
According to Former Senator Ernesto M. Maceda, who also graced the event, the province of Quezon is first in his list of priorities when it comes to projects. He presented in front of the barangay captains of the towns of Padre Burgos, Agdangan, Macalelon, Pitogo and Unisan who attended the distributions of the Serbisyong Suarez Health Coupons his plans for the province – like his plan to give a regular allowance, a 10% Senior Citizen discount increase and to give cash gifts to barangay officials.
Also present during the distribution were 4 municipal mayors and their ABC presidents, councilors, and barangay councilors of the 5 towns that were mentioned.
After handing out the health coupons, Gov. Suarez and Former Senator Maceda headed straight to the Silver Founding Anniversary of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Unisan Campus, to attend as guest speakers in the 25th anniversary celebration of the school.
A total of 1.5 million pesos was bestowed upon the school by the Provincial Government to be used for the construction of a new Computer Laboratory, which is to be followed by a Speech Laboratory. New classrooms are also set to be erected next year, and Gov. Suarez also said that he will enroll scholars to the school, a part of Serbisyong Suarez for Education – which over 6,756 scholars from around the province of Quezon are benefitting from. Gov. Suarez added that if his Master Plan, which he submitted to the Provincial Government, would be set into motion, PUP Unisan will become the best university in the Province.
Mayor Maceda praised the industrious Gov. Suarez for his excellent programs in Education and Health, which he personally observed to have real results and thouroughly felt throughout the province.
Also attending the 25th anniversary was PCL President Jet C. Suarez, Atty. Joana C. Suarez, 3rd District Board Member Lourdes Pasatiempo, Unisan mayor Nonato Puache, Mulanay Mayor Joselito “Tito” Ojeda and their Vice Mayors, and Sangguniang Bayan Members. (Quezon PIO)
